Train & Tram to Soller & Port de Soller
Since the journey begins in Palma de Mallorca. I would recommend to read my article about the best things to see and do in Palma. Here you can board the vintage Tren de Sóller—a narrow-gauge railway dating back to 1912—for a scenic one-hour ride through Mallorca’s breathtaking countryside. Once in Soller, a town renowned as one of Mallorca’s best villages, you can explore its stone streets, charming cafes, and vibrant main plaza. For those looking to get closer to the coast, a tram runs between Soller and Port de Soller, a beautiful coastal village with a stunning bay and sandy beaches. Here, you’ll find some of the best coastal walks in Mallorca, with paths that wind around the bay and reveal expansive views of the Mediterranean—perfect for those traveling car-free.
Definitely get your tickets online since it’s a very popular touristic route and tickets can be sold out. I would recommend to start your journey before 11am or after 2pm. Get a combo ticket that includes train and tram, you will save some money. But also note that bus or taxi from Soller to Port de Soller are cheaper and faster. Tram is nice to experience once. It takes like 20 minutes to get to Port de Soller by tram and just 7 minutes by car.
Where to Stay in Port de Soller
If you’re looking for the best place in Mallorca for couples, I can’t recommend Port de Soller enough. This charming, upscale town on the island’s northwest coast has everything you’d want for a romantic and relaxed getaway. Staying here, you’re surrounded by the Tramuntana mountains, sandy beaches, and a lively yet refined promenade. It’s a fancy area of Mallorca that still feels down-to-earth, and it’s perfect for couples and families alike. With calm waters, Port de Soller also has one of the best family beaches in Mallorca, making it an ideal spot if you’re visiting with little ones.
During my stay at Hotel Espléndido, I found it to be everything I’d hoped for and more. The hotel itself is stunning, with an elegant Art Deco design and breathtaking views from almost every corner. My room had a private balcony overlooking the bay, where I spent mornings sipping coffee and watching the early light hit the water. The two pools—especially the infinity pool—were a highlight, providing a luxurious space to unwind with a view of the sea. And the on-site spa was the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring; the treatments were exceptional, and the staff made sure every detail was just right.
Dining at Espléndido was another memorable experience. Each morning, I looked forward to breakfast on the terrace, with fresh Mediterranean options and a panoramic view of the port that set a beautiful tone for the day. The hotel’s restaurant also serves amazing seasonal dishes that were some of the best meals I had on the island. My favourite was pancakes with dulce de leche. Plus, you’re steps away from scenic coastal walks, local tapas bars, and unique boutiques. My time at Hotel Espléndido in Port de Soller truly felt like a slice of paradise—whether for couples looking for romance or families wanting a refined escape, it’s a place that I’ll return to in a heartbeat.
